Surat Al-`Alaq (The Clot) - سورة العلق
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Sahih International
Recite in the name of your Lord who created -Muhsin Khan
Read! In the Name of your Lord, Who has created (all that exists),
Sahih International
Created man from a clinging substance.Muhsin Khan
Has created man from a clot (a piece of thick coagulated blood).
Sahih International
Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous -Muhsin Khan
Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous,
Sahih International
Who taught by the pen -Muhsin Khan
Who has taught (the writing) by the pen [the first person to write was Prophet Idrees (Enoch)].
Sahih International
Taught man that which he knew not.Muhsin Khan
Has taught man that which he knew not.
Sahih International
No! [But] indeed, man transgressesMuhsin Khan
Nay! Verily, man does transgress all bounds (in disbelief and evil deed, etc.).

Because he sees himself self-sufficient.Muhsin Khan
Because he considers himself self-sufficient.
Sahih International
Indeed, to your Lord is the return.Muhsin Khan
Surely! Unto your Lord is the return.

Have you seen the one who forbidsMuhsin Khan
Have you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) seen him (i.e. Abu Jahl) who prevents,
